I have one week to go before my plane leaves for Paris...well, before my plane leaves Burlington, VT for Washington DC where I get to sit and wait for another 5 hours 45 minutes before getting on a plane for Paris. It's all good, though because I'm aware I have to wait that long and I brought it all on myself so it's ok. I can deal with it because I did it on purpose.
First of all the flight is just a tad bit cheaper this way but that's not even the reason so I guess that's not a first of all. It's more of a spillover effect to my paranoia about planes not getting to where they need to be on time. I would hate to expect to fly right in to DC to meet my next plane only to find that the plane from VT is late and I've missed my flight and need to go through the rigmarole of finding another flight. I'd rather sit and be bored for 5 hours 45 minutes than to stress about getting another flight. I've waited standby before and it sucks. I'm almost always prepared for plan A to not work and plan B to be iffy but doable.
Knowing I'd have such a long layover I started looking for ideas of what can keep me occupied while I set up house in the airport. There were all kinds of websites covering all manor of things to help me with my trip to Paris - packing, places to visit, places to stay, eat and photograph. I lost track of what I was looking for in the first place. Somewhere between September and the end of October I bought an app for places the movie Midnight In Paris had filmed. I've seen the movie 4 times now and am wanting to hit up a few of the places in the movie.
Anyway, I'm not really up on all that is regarding apps so when I realized I needed an iphone or ipod to use the app I was somewhat lost. Then I thought to myself, "when am I even going to take time to listen to this thing?" and the answer came to me - this trip is taking every single penny you have right now so let's spend $200 and get an ipod. You can listen to the app (everyone now) AT THE AIRPORT. So, yep, I got the ipod plus $40 or so in accessories to save my pride in having spent $1.06 on an app I couldn't use. But stop laughing because now I have plenty of free apps to listen to at the airport. So there.
